Help end the tiger trade

Tiger

The tiger is one of the most revered, feared and yet popular species on Earth. It is perhaps the most powerful symbol for all of our planet's endangered wildlife.

The tiger is one of the most revered, feared and yet popular species on Earth. It is perhaps the most powerful symbol for all of our planet's endangered wildlife.

Once widespread across Asia, fewer than 7,000 wild tigers are now found in just 7% of the habitat they once occupied.

One of the world's largest fisheries at risk

Bristol Bay is at the epicenter of a sustainable seafood industry that's worth $2 billion annually. It makes no sense to allow oil and gas drilling that would put Bristol Bay's fisheries and its rich arctic marine biodiversity at risk, yet would generate only $7.7 billion total over 25 to 40 years of operation.

Now is the time to speak out -- a House committee is expected to vote next Tuesday, 05/22/2007, on whether to make Bristol Bay off limits to energy development for one year.

Save the Grizzly Bear

Instead of undoing protections for grizzly bears, we really should be guarding them more vigilantly than ever before.

Help save grizzly bears by asking the Secretary of the Interior to re-list them as endangered species: Sign today!

The great grizzly bear has long symbolized the wild spirit of the American West. Grizzlies once ranged far and wide - at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition, approximately 50,000-100,000 grizzly bears wandered through the rugged, mountainous West.

Burger King gets the crown on historic animal welfare changes

Burger King is improving its animal welfare policies to begin addressing some of the worst abuses endured by farm animals. The company is taking action on three critical areas: battery cages for laying hens, gestation crates for breeding pigs, and slaughter methods for chickens. Get all the details in this morning's New York Times article.

Penguins feel the heat too

The March of the Penguins is underway because their home is starting to melt. Global warming is pushing penguins further south in Antarctica, and their migration is now threatening the food supply of the whales, seals, birds and large fish in the regions they are starting to occupy.

The United States is the top global warming polluter in the world. We have a unique responsibility to take action and stop global warming now. To do this, we need a president who will combat global warming and usher in a new era of clean energy.
