I received an email this morning from one of the Dast2Dast volunteers. Farnaz is her cousin's wife and below is the body of the email:
We don't know how else to say this. If you would take 5 minutes right now you may SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE. Can you imagine how huge that would be??? There are patients in hospitals right now, waiting for a bone marrow match, so their lives can be spared. You may be that person. Without you, someone can actually die.
All we need you to do is to register! To do so, all you need to do is to place a cotton swab in your mouth and get a saliva sample. It's that simple!!!
If you are a match, it may be as simple and painless as donating blood. The days where a bone marrow donation meant back surgery are over.
Right now, there is a patient at the City of Hope; a 31-year old young lady, by the name of Farnaz Rahjoo. She is the mother of Kiana (5) and Nadia (2).![]()
Farnaz is suffering from leukemia. She has been battling cancer for almost 2 years, has been through chemo and radiation and now is laying in a hospital bed, isolated, unable to have her own children in the same room as her, simply waiting. Her days are numbered.
If a match is not found soon, she may never get to hold her children again. PLEASE. YOU may be the answer to her prayers. Register and let's find out.
For your convenience, there are 3 options to register:
- Join online for FREE at National Marrow Donor Program; when asked to provide a "Promo Code" enter PACI4HOPE
- Come to the Bone Marrow Drive on Sunday, November 1st
UCLA, Kerchoff Grand Salon
between 1 and 5 PM
308 Westwood Plaza
Los Angeles, CCA 90095 - Come to the Bone Marrow Drive on Sunday, November 8th
between NOON and 5 p.m.
20215 Saticoy St.
Canoga Park, CA 91306
And please forward this to everyone you know.

I received an email from Haleh a few days ago and wanted to post an update:
"...Farnaz is doing really well. Her blood count is going up as expected and so far the 2nd transplant seems to be working. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it will stay that way.
I see her every day and I told her about your kind email. She says thanks for your kindness and your support..."

Farnaz tells the story of her bone marrow transplant in her own words!

The bone marrow match they have right now is only 70% match which is not ideal but that is the best they have for now. Farnaz and her family are hoping they find something much better in the next few weeks as she is running out of time and needs to have her transplant by mid December.

I just received an email from Farnaz' sister:
Farnaz is getting ready for her bone marrow transplant next month and she needs to receive HLA match platelets before that to raise her white blood cell count. So please spread the words. We need HLA match platelets. The test requires answering some questions about your general health and giving blood samples.
The best way to do this is to go to City of Hope blood transfusion center and mention Farnaz Zough's name and room number 5237.
To make appointment please call: 626-471-7171.
Thank you so much for your help.
